Russell first started volunteering at Grove Cottage in 2015, driving the minibus to pick up and drop off members, helping with the adults group in between driving. It costs £400,000 per year to run Grove Cottage, but unfortunately they don’t receive any funding from The Royal Mencap Society. The home of Bishops Stortford Mencap, Grove Cottage provides social and educational activities for children and adults with a learning difficulty. But it’s all for a worthy cause: Grove Cottage. On 11th September, Russell and Tommy will attempt the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. So much to everyone’s surprise, rather than going head to head, they’ve decided to team up on their next challenge. From freezing cold walks in the dead of night to outdo the other’s daily step count to cheating in a family game of cards, these two are fuelled by the desire to reign supreme over the other. While father and son duo Russell and Tommy Cattell are Stortford stalwarts, always looking for opportunities to support the local community and clubs, they’re also fiercely competitive.
